The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) has released the syllabus and examination scheme for the post of Physical Training Instructor (PTI), part of the recruitment process outlined in Advertisement No. IITM/R/1/2024, dated 10th February 2024. The selection process consists of three levels: a Computer-Based MCQ Test, a Physical Fitness and Sports Events Test, and a Skill Test.
Examination Scheme (Exam: 01-10-2024)
The recruitment for the PTI position involves three stages:

Candidates will first take the MCQ Test, which assesses general knowledge and domain-specific topics in physical education. Shortlisted candidates will then proceed to the Physical Fitness and Sports Events Test, and finally, a Skill Test covering language and computer proficiency.

IIT Madras Physical Training Instructor Syllabus Overview
The Level 1 Computer-Based MCQ Test is divided into two sections:
Section A (30 Marks) covers:
- General Knowledge and Current Affairs
- Logical Reasoning
- English Language and Communication Skills (Comprehension)
- Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013
Section B (70 Marks) covers core topics in physical education:
- Foundation and Methods in Physical Education
- Research Methods in Physical Education
- Sports Statistics and Use of Computers in Physical Education
- Scientific Principles of Sports Training
- Test, Measurement, and Evaluation in Physical Education
- Sports Psychology and Exercise Physiology
- Health Education and Sports Medicine
- Games and Sports Awards
Level 2: Physical Fitness and Sports Events
The Physical Fitness Test includes:
- Sprint and Running
- Long Jump
- Sit-ups and Pull-ups
The Sports Events Test allows candidates to choose two sports, but no more than one from the following categories:
- Track & Field events
- Indoor sports (Shuttle Badminton, Squash, Table Tennis, Swimming)
- Outdoor sports (Cricket, Volleyball, Basketball, Hockey, Football)
Additional sports events may be included if required, with prior intimation to the candidates.
Level 3: Skill Test
The Skill Test assesses:
- English Language: Communication skills, comprehension, report/letter writing.
- Computer Proficiency: MS Office and sending emails with attachments.
Important Notes:
- A minimum of 5X candidates will be shortlisted for the Physical Fitness and Sports Events Test based on their performance in the MCQ Test.
- The questions will generally be at the graduation level.
- There is no negative marking for wrong answers.
- Additional indoor or outdoor sports may be included with prior notice to candidates.
