The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) has released the syllabus and examination scheme for the post of Junior Superintendent, as part of the recruitment process under Advertisement No. IITM/R/1/2024, dated 10th February 2024. The selection process consists of a Computer-Based MCQ Test followed by a Descriptive and Skill Test.
Examination Scheme (Exam: 01-10-2024)
The recruitment for the Junior Superintendent position involves two levels:

Junior Superintendent Syllabus Overview
The Level 1 Computer-Based MCQ Test is divided into two parts:
Part A (40 Marks) covers:
- General Aptitude
- Arithmetic & Numerical Ability
- Quantitative Aptitude
- General English & Comprehension
- Data Interpretation
- Logical Reasoning
- General Knowledge & Current Affairs (including the Constitution of India)
Part B (60 Marks) covers:
- Academic Administration in IITs: Act and Statutes, Functions of Statutory Bodies (BoG, FC, Senate, BWC), Academic Programs, Ordinances & Regulations
- Service Rules and Acts: FR & SR, CCS (Leave, CCA, Conduct, Pension) Rules, TA Rules, LTC, Pay Rules, Allowances, RTI Act 2005, NEP 2020, Reservations in recruitment, Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2013
- Finance & Purchase Rules: General Financial Rules (GFR) 2017, GeM, GST, Budgeting, Accounting, and Auditing in Central Autonomous Bodies, Income Tax Act 1961, GPF, NPS, and Public Financial Management System (PFMS)
Level 2: Descriptive and Skill Test
The Descriptive Test will cover topics from the Level 1 syllabus and include:
- Letter Writing
- Noting & Drafting
- Essay Writing
The Skill Test will assess computer proficiency, covering:
- MS Office
- Sending emails
- Basic knowledge of database systems
- Typing proficiency
Important Notes:
- A minimum of 5X candidates will be shortlisted for the Descriptive Test based on their performance in the MCQ Test.
- The questions will generally be set at the minimum qualification level.
- There is no negative marking for incorrect answers in the MCQ test.
