Key Details For ICYS Research Fellow

  • Annual Salary: 6 million yen or higher (including social insurance premiums and taxes), with an additional commuting allowance (limited).
  • Research Budget: 2 million yen per year.
  • Contract Term: The initial contract is for 3 years, renewable annually based on performance, research progress, workload, and other factors. The maximum employment term is 5 years, following NIMS regulations.
  • Working Hours: 7 hours and 45 minutes per day (08:30-17:15), 5 days a week. Days off include Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, and year-end/New Year holidays (December 29 – January 3).
  • Eligibility: Applicants must have obtained a Ph.D. within the last 10 years or expect to receive one by the date of appointment. If a Ph.D. certificate is not available by the application deadline, a letter signed by the supervisor, stating the expected date of Ph.D. award, must be submitted.
