About Us

Considering socio-economic and educational backwardness of the Scheduled Caste (SC) communities the erstwhile government of Andhra Pradesh convinced that starting separate schools for these communities with no economical burden on them was the right measure to provide better access to quality education. Against this background, in the year 1984, the government established Social Welfare Residential Schools in areas predominantly populated by the SC communities.

Thus, came the Andhra Pradesh Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (APSWREIS) under the Societies Act as an autonomous body. The TSWREI Society hitherto part of the erstwhile APSWREI Society emerged as an independent entity in the month of June, 2014 after the bifurcation of the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS) under aegis of the Ministry of Welfare, Government of Telangana has been passionately working to place the poorest among the Scheduled Castes in the prosperous orbit through quality education for the last 35 years. This Society with 268 institutions with 150000 students has been providing quality education in English medium up to graduation. The honourable chief minister of Telangana Sri K. Chandrasekhar Rao strongly believes that education is the right medium by which the lives of the marginalized children can be transformed in social and economic spheres thereby cultivating a new generation of marginalized students in Telangana, who can lead the country in the 21st century. The Society believes in seamless experimentation and syncing with the emerging trends in the education space. The Society also started venturing into specialized schools reflecting the aspirations of its clientele. The Society today runs exclusive specialized schools: School of Fine Arts;
ii) Sainik school and Armed Forces Preparatory Degree College for Women. The Society is functioning assiduously and has grown leaps and bounds, sculpting thousands of marginalized boys and girls into outstanding personalities over the last three decades.

This society with 268 institutions with about 1,50,000 students has been providing quality education in English medium upto graduation. Due to its invincible position in global public residential education map, the TSWREIS continues to attract many educators from different parts of the country and the world every year.
TSWREIS with 1,49,680 students covers roughly 10% of cohorts among all SCs in Telangana. TSWREIS runs high schools, junior colleges, and degree colleges covering both arts and sciences. This is more girl-centric with 175 institutions giving education to 1,02,720 girls. This includes 14000 young women who escaped the clutches of early marriage to pursue higher education.

Student Centric Pedagogy

Student is not only the reason behind TSWR existence, but also the target of all the attention. From classroom to kitchen garden, every effort is made to make the student an active participant who learns by doing things. Seamless competitions in every domain are carefully designed to discover the hidden talents of the students.

With this objective in mind, the Society launched numerous innovative programmes like Summer Samurai Camps, English-Plus Clubs, Student Councils, Flipped Class Pedagogy, Green Gurus, Super Students Lecture Series, Coding, Robotics, Mirror Project, Adventure Sports, Operation Blue Crystal, Music Band, Lecturers of Life, Kitchen Gardens, Ignite Fest, Literary competitions, Algorythm, Swaerolympics and Sports Academies aimed at promoting creativity, innovation, cognitive thinking, scientific temper, competitive spirit, sporting talent, and leadership and communication skills among students.

Today, sons and daughters from marginalized communities have been coming out with flying colors in academics, sports, mountaineering and extra-curricular activities and bringing laurels to the state of Telangana and the Indian nation. All the staff members of TSWREIS also act as local parents. These committed staff members are expected to stay in the campus and provide round the clock attention to the students. A total of 4081teaching staff (3408 regular staff and 673 contract basis) and non-teaching staff (534) are working in TSWREIS. The team comes with an advantage of more than 3 decades of experience in residential educational system. Teacher student ratio is 1:29.

SUMMER SAMURAI CAMPS

A slew of summer training camps hitherto unheard of in the annals of the government education sector were launched to provide a platform for the students to explore and learn skills beyond the textbook. The mammoth summer camps nicknamed ‘SUMMER SAMURAI’ to remind and infuse the minds of the Swaeroes with the spirit and fortitude of the great warriors of feudal Japan who were respected and feared for their gracefulness in peace and brutality in war. Dignified by the strict code of honor that bound them, the Samurais were more ready to give their own life than suffer a harsh existence of dishonor. Japan’s most dominating warriors, filled the pages of history with their heroic tales, and generated a legend larger than any one man could ever hope to attain.
