The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) has released the syllabus and scheme of examination for the post of Assistant Security Officer as part of the recruitment process outlined in Advertisement No. IITM/R/1/2024, dated 10th February 2024. Examination Scheme (Exam: 01-10-2024)
The recruitment process for the Assistant Security Officer post is divided into three levels:

Finally, Level 3 involves a Skill Test, focusing on English language skills, communication, and computer proficiency.

A minimum of 5X candidates (where X is the number of posts) will be shortlisted for the Physical & Driving Test and the Skill Test, based on their performance in the MCQ test. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers in the MCQ test.
Syllabus Overview
The Level 1 Computer-Based MCQ Test is designed to evaluate both general knowledge and specialized skills relevant to the Assistant Security Officer role. It is divided into three sections:
Section A (30 Marks) covers:
- General Knowledge
- Quantitative Aptitude & Reasoning Ability
- General English & Communication Skills
Section B (20 Marks) focuses on:
- General Financial Rules (GFR)
- Central Civil Services (CCS) Rules: Leave, Conduct, and CCA Rules
- Right to Information (RTI) Act
- Security outsourcing contracts and administration
- Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2013
Section C (50 Marks) emphasizes Security Enforcement and Management, including:
- Physical security systems, intruder protection, monitoring, and communication systems
- Access control for personnel, materials, and vehicles
- Material Gate Pass Systems
- Emergency response procedures (theft, fire, accidents)
- Basic fire fighting and first aid skills
- Event security management for special occasions and VVIP visits
- Surveillance systems, patrolling, perimeter protection, and computerized pass systems
Level 2: Physical & Driving Test
The Physical & Driving Test in Level 2 evaluates the candidateโs physical fitness and driving abilities. The test consists of:
- 100-meter sprint and 1-kilometer run
- Sit-ups or push-ups
- Basic fire fighting, safety, and first aid skills
- LMV (Light Motor Vehicle) driving skills
Candidates are expected to demonstrate a strong level of physical fitness, safety knowledge, and competence in driving.
Level 3: Skill Test
The Skill Test focuses on practical skills essential for the role. Candidates will be assessed on:
- English Communication: Comprehension, report writing, and letter drafting
- Computer Proficiency: Use of MS Office and sending emails with attachments
This test aims to ensure that candidates possess the necessary administrative and communication skills to effectively manage security-related tasks.
Important Notes
- The questions in all levels of the test will generally be based on a graduation level of knowledge.
- There will be no negative marking for wrong answers in the Level 1 MCQ test.
