About the Agawai Mature Tamil Scholars Scholarship
This ( Agawai) scheme provides financial aid to senior Tamil scholars, especially those facing economic difficulties. It recognizes their lifelong dedication to Tamil and offers them the following benefits:
- A monthly stipend of ₹3500 .
- A medical allowance of ₹500 .
- A special one-time assistance of ₹4000 .
- Free travel in government buses for senior Tamil scholars.
Additionally, after the passing of a scholar, their legal heir (spouse) will continue to receive ₹2500 per month , along with ₹500 for medical purposes for the rest of their life. Eligibility Criteria For Agawai Mature Tamil Scholars Scholarship 2024
Interested scholars must meet the following conditions to apply for the scheme:
- Age Requirement: The applicant must have completed 58 years of age by 01.01.2024 .
- Annual Income: The annual income of the applicant should not exceed ₹72,000 . Income proof must be obtained from the District Magistrate’s office.
- Tamil Work Proficiency: Applicants should have a proven track record of contributions to Tamil language development.
- Recommendation: A recommendation certificate from two recognized Tamil scholars must be submitted along with the application.
- Documentation: Copies of the following documents must be attached to the application:
- Aadhaar card
- Family card (Smart Card)
- Aadhaar card of the applicant’s legal heir (spouse) if applicable.

The application form for the scholarship can be obtained directly from the office of the Assistant Director of Tamil Development in Ariyalur District or downloaded from the Tamil Development Department’s official website at www.tamilvalarchithurai.tn.gov.in .
Important Dates
Completed applications should be submitted in person to the office of the Assistant Director of Tamil Development, located within the premises of the Ariyalur District Collectorate, by 31st October 2024. Applications sent directly to the Directorate of Tamil Development will not be accepted.
Exclusions
Scholars who are already receiving financial assistance under other Tamil Nadu government schemes, such as the women’s rights allowance or social security pension, are not eligible for this scholarship.
